The USN Chess Team had 14 of its members compete over the weekend at the 2019 Meigs Magnet Halloween chess tournament. It was the second of three qualifiers for the 2020 Nashville City Championship.

In the K-3 Primary Section, USN finished just out of the prizes even though we did not field a full four-player team. Leading the charge and qualifying for the city championship, Matthew Golann '29 won first place. His teammate Reese Mehr '30 was a medalist, and their team finished seventh overall.

In the K-6 Elementary Division, our squad placed third overall (top 5 placement) with eight team members present. Krish Nachnani '28, Ishaan Nachnani '28, Will Nichols '28, Kevin Mehr '28, Jonah Bendell '27, Teague McMillan '27, Loch McMillan '28, and Asha Guha '28 represented their team well and had a lot of fun dressing up for costume contests in the process.

In the K-9 Junior High Division, the USN team stayed consistent with its second straight second place finish. Stewart Hall '25 is now the third USN student to qualify for the illustrious spots in the 2020 city finals by coming in clear second. Evan Hauser '25 and PK Brown '25 placed in the medals to round out our junior high team.

In the K-12 High School, Kunaal Saggi was a one-man army and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the city.

Our final big event of this semester will be on Saturday, Novermber 23 at St. Bernard Academy to complete the qualification spots for the 2020 city event in January.
