Insider tips shared from a USNA pro

Artclectic Co-Chair Ingrid Perdikis shares upcoming events and advice on navigating USN with fellow parents, especially those new to the school.

We moved to Nashville two years ago and my son started attending USN in 10th grade after being in his previous school from PreK. The warm welcome and immediate inclusion that he (and we) felt at USN were overwhelming. We will always be grateful to the USN community for being so good to our family. We hope your USN experience will be the same.

The sheer volume of what USNA does annually is impressive and frankly a little overwhelming at first. What follows are a few thoughts on surviving and thriving during your first year at USN. Don’t worry it’s easy. Here are my USNA cliff notes:

Volunteer! I believe that being active in USNA is a lifeline to the heart of USN. I’ve met some of the kindest, hard-working women and men through my involvement in USNA. I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved in all sorts of beautifully executed USNA activities and events. You’ll get so much more than you give through your involvement.

Don’t miss attending the Artclectic Patron’s Party on Thursday, October 24 — it’s fab!

Be on the lookout for Music Night tickets when they are posted and buy them ASAP! To be the first to know, read your USN Newsletter and division publication. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Attend USN Evening Classes. The diverse assortment of classes is impressive. I’ve loved every single class that I’ve attended.

Go to the monthly USNA meetings, if you can. You’ll meet the most wonderful people and learn a lot. The next meeting at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, October 23 in the Gordon Multipurpose Room.

Read your USN Newsletter and division publication and be sure to scroll all the way down, paying close attention to all upcoming events and announcements.

The USNA Directory is your best friend. I carried mine everywhere I went for two years. It not only contains contact information for all parents, faculty, and staff, but it’s also an excellent who-to-call-for-what resource, as is the school website.

The River Campus is most likely where your child will go for after school athletics. The USN buses are efficient and punctual. You can also pick you child up at the River Campus after sports if you prefer.

In short, my wish for you is that your days at USN are as happy as ours have been.
