Griffin Finishes Sixth at State Championship

Coach Boysen
Two days, 36 holes of golf - below is a brief recap if you did not get caught in my twitter storm. I am no Fitzpatrick, but I managed to tweet updates on just about every hole.

First of all, you should know that Anne Griffin was an amazing representative for USN at this year’s TSSAA State Championship Golf Tournament – making new friends, helping competitors, graceful interaction with course staff and parents. I know you would be as proud as I am.
Day one was a great start toward her goal of finishing fifth or better. She was on target with the majority of her shots, and scrambled well when she was out of position. She ended the round with a dramatic 60-foot chip in for birdie on 18! Her score of 80 was within two strokes of her average this season, and this put her inside the top-eight players in our division.

Day two looked like it might be a carbon copy of the previous round, but, it’s day two of the golf state championship which always finds a way to frustrate competitors. And although Anne played really well, her putts didn’t fall as easily, and her approach shots were just a bit further away from the intended target. She was not the only player to experience this, many did. However, she managed this well and rallied on the back nine to limit her losses. She finished day two with an 86. Not the score she envisioned before the round, but it still earned her a tie for sixth overall! And while this was not fifth, it's a solid improvement over last year, and a wonderful cap to a stellar season. The future is bright for this young golfer. Stay tuned…
