University School of Nashville placed second in the state at the 2019 Tennessee Junior Classical League Competition. Thirty USN Middle School and High School Latin students competed in the AAAA Division in the two-day tournament in Chattanooga. These multitalented students contributed to the team effort by scoring points in academic, essay, poetry, art, singing, athletic and other competitions.

Individually, Elliott Clark ‘19 was the High Point Scorer among all competitors from any school. The competition also marked the end of his tenure as secretary of the State Organization. Annie French ‘19 placed fifth overall. Her pastel was judged Best in Show, the best art in any media.
In the academic competitions, students compete against students in the same level of Latin. Sam Barocas ‘23, Elliott Clark ‘19, Philip Feaster ‘23, Annie French ‘19, and Sarah Page-McCaw ‘24, however, were recognized for having the highest score from all levels on an academic test in addition to having the highest score at their own level.

USN’s Certamen (Latin Quiz Bowl) Teams finished third, fourth, and third in the Novice, Intermediate and Advanced Tournaments, respectively. USN also tied for first for its contributions to Community Service projects and the TJCL newsletter.

The Latin students enjoyed having French Teacher Richard Espenant join them and take all of these wonderful pictures.

The top five places earn points for the school. In addition to the team competitions, USN’s individual point scorers are listed below. For academic testing, the place reflects the student’s place at his/her level. For Graphic and Creative Arts and Olympika, the place is the overall place.
