USN takes district Mock Trial title by fielding incredible teams

Wilson Hubbell
USN sent two exceedingly talented Mock Trial teams to the district competition last weekend. By my estimation, our A Team cleared the path for our phenomenal B Team to take the championship.
by Wilson Hubbell, High School science teacher & Mock Trial faculty sponsor

Our team of all seniors (A Team) went head to head with the best from Harpeth Hall in one round and then against the best from MBA twice in two separate rounds. There was no precedent for playing the same team twice that I know of.

Also unprecedented: our other team from USN (the "B Team") emerged as champions.

Led by three seniors, both teams were about as prepared as was possible.

Those senior leaders were:
Evan Rork '19
Haley Harris '19
Madeleine Aikin '19

Our A Team did not place in the top 5. But they were in good company with other very strong teams in the tournament also kept out of the top 5. I believe all these traditionally top teams knocked each other out of the top 5. Haley Harris '19 was awarded the team MVP.

The other members of this team were:
Ashleigh Grindon '19
Grace Rieniets '19
Isha Upender '19
Katelyn Starks '19
Rachel Becker '19
Shriya Karam '19
Sonali Dasari '19
Sydney Stevenson '19
Zoe Light '19

As previously mentioned, the USN B Team took 1st place in the tournament, knocking out (perplexingly) Harpeth Hall's B Team in the final round in a fairly decisive victory. Caroline Sigmund '19 was awarded the team MVP.

This team has now qualified for the State Tournament which will take place in a few weeks. Most if not all of these students will be giving up many more evenings to hone their preparation, and they will be missing out on the last weekend of Spring Break so they can take their skills to the Big Show. Wish them luck.

The B Team roster is as follows:
Aasha Zinke '20
Arushi Mehta '20
Caroline Sigmund '19
Claire Kim '20
Esha Karam '21
Ethan Li '21
Jude Warren '22
Katelyn Wenkoff '20
Krishin Parikh '22
Morgan Lewis '20
Neha Mehta '20
Olivia Rhee '20
Yoshi D'souza '20

Last but not least, here is a list of all the amazing lawyer helpers:
Marsh Nichols
Ben Raybin '03
George Nolan
Alex BIssell '03
Jodie Bell
Tim Warnock
(and I'm probably forgetting some others who came in.)

Give congratulations to all of these participants when you see them.
