Author Andrew Maraniss to visit January 27
The author will speak to the Nashville community about his new release and New York Times bestseller from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 27 in the Auditorium. The USN Bookstore is selling his books in anticipation of his visit.
Andrew Maraniss will serve as USN's author in residence in January 2020, spending time with students to help them understand the literary writing process and speak about his works.
Maraniss is the New York Times bestselling author of "Strong Inside," a biography of Perry Wallace, the first African American basketball player in the South Eastern Conference. "Strong Inside" received the Lillian Smith Book Award for civil rights and the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award Special Recognition Prize for social justice, the first sports-related book ever to win either honor. His new book, "Games of Deception," tells the story of the first U.S. Olympic basketball team at the Olympics in Nazi Germany in 1936. Maraniss manages the Sports & Society Initiative at Vanderbilt University and is a contributor to ESPN's sports and race website, TheUndefeated.com. He studied history at Vanderbilt and now lives in Brentwood with his wife and two young children.
He also will hold a book talk for the USN families and the Nashville community from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 27 in the Auditorium. This event is free.
