Health Team to hold COVID-19 vaccine town hall
Following the approval of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11, USN's Health Team aims to provide helpful information. A virtual town hall will be held Wednesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. via the link here.

On Tuesday, November 2, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. Children are at risk of suffering severe consequences from coronavirus infection and are a cause of spread to family and community members. As with older children and adults already eligible for the vaccine, the effectiveness is nearly 91%, and the side effects have been minimal with the most common one being a sore arm. For those of you interested in learning more about the vaccine in this age group, we will host a virtual town hall on Wednesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. at the link here with Ritu Banerjee, M.D., a Vanderbilt pediatrician and infectious disease expert.
There are a number of ways to schedule an appointment for your eligible student:
- Starting Monday, November 8, the Metro Health Department will administer doses to this age group at all drive-thru and community-based vaccination sites.
- In partnership with the Metro Public Health Department, Metro Nashville Public Schools will host multiple free drive-thru vaccine clinics where children 5-11 can get their first dose, with a follow-up for a second dose three weeks later.
- Your child’s pediatrician may be offering the vaccine in their office.
To minimize disruption at school we ask that you try to schedule vaccinations later in the day and on weekends. Once your child has been vaccinated with both doses, please upload the card to Magnus.
We will continue to share information about the logistics of obtaining a vaccine as it becomes available to us, and in the meantime please reach out to us with questions. We are encouraged by this news and hope to support your family as best we can.
