Serving Aces

Katie Roth
The Tigers won 25-22 and 25-16 in two exciting sets where the Tigers showed growth each possession!
The Tigers had a later game than expected and despite the odd start they still found a way to pull out the first set win, 25-22! While the Tigers faced communication issues early on, they were able to rally together and back each other up, especially as Lipscomb started to make a run at the end of the first set with a great overhand server, who also had a slight float to it. Despite that late set run, the Tiger's collective effort on the service line provided enough momentum to maintain the lead throughout the set. All the servers got at least one ace and collectively they all earned a total 15 aces, 15 points!

In the second set the Tigers kept up the momentum. With some new changes to the line up, USN was mixing things up! The defense and communication improved as the second set came around, which meant that the Tigers didn’t have to rely so heavily on their serving game and that their defense could become a great offense. The Tigers earned 10 aces in the second set and kept their composure throughout the set, now allowing Lipscomb the same opportunity to go on a run like in the first set. USN won the second set 25-16.

In total the Tigers earned half of their points off of aces (25/50) and their growth as the match went reflected in the score and how they played. This team’s ability to adapt and grow in the face of adversity is very impressive and something everyone can appreciate. This Tiger’s team only has one more game left in their season, Wednesday against Harpeth Hall. Wish them good luck as they try to end the season on a high note! Go Tigers!
