Serve Receive Get Low!

Katie Roth
Monday games are tough and the Tigers had to fight through those Monday blues to match Oak Hill's energy. The first set USN lost 4-25. Luckily the Tigers bounced back with more energy and hustle earned a 25-15 win. The final set saw both teams fighting to the very end with an extended third set. USN lost 16-18 in a nail-biter.
The Tigers faced another tough challenge: playing on a Monday. Unfortunately the team had a slow start to the match, losing 4-25. Oak Hill went on an offensive run due to their awesome serving and the Tigers just had a hard time communicating and getting good passes up.

After the hard loss the Tigers re-focused and came back super strong in the second set. Anna Brook helped galvanize the team with a great hit that earned her a kill (a “K” is awarded to a player any time a spike/hit is un-returnable by the opposition and is a direct cause of the opponent not returning the ball). Then Evan Miller Austill went on a serving run of her own, earning a total 5 aces! With the addition of great group passing the Tigers earned a come-back win, 25-15. The on court energy spilled out to the sidelines, which led to dynamic cheers and the Tigers having the momentum going into the third set.

The final set went back and forth with each team relying on their serving to put the game away. Unfortunately Oak Hill got an early lead because the Tigers couldn't stay low against their powerful serves. However, after an awesome rally where the Tigers utilized all three of the touches and won the point, they took Oak Hill to 15-15. In the end the Tigers worked really hard to stay in the game, but fell after a lofty serve to the back line, 16-18.

Another great game chalk-full of great lessons and reps. As this team faces these challenges head on, they will only get better and continue to overcome them in time. Good luck Tigers in your next game! Stay low and keep working hard! Go Tigers!
