Lower School builds, tests robotics

by Mark Littlefield, Lower School technology coordinator

First graders are testing out Milo the Science Rover this week.
About a dozen fourth graders from Kim Avington and Lauren Gage’s classes volunteered their recess time Wednesday, Sept. 21 to help build robots for Betsy Hoffman’s first-grade class. We had a huge number of students who wanted to help but we only had 12 robots that needed to be built. It was certainly unselfish of them to give up their recess time, but they definitely had fun building the rovers.

Hoffman’s class is testing out Milo the Science Rover this week during the morning. Since the robots are already built, this will help us get started programming and moving about during class. Students will practice measuring using non-standard units of measurement and be challenged with programming Milo to run through a maze.
