Julia Martin new works on solo exhibition in Tibbott Gallery

by Delia Seigenthaler, visual arts teacher

Opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 with the oil paintings on display through Tuesday, Oct. 18.
Julia Martin has been exhibiting her work in Nashville and nationally for 20 years. Versed in multiple mediums, she is best known for her compelling oil paintings. Her subject matter is deeply rooted in the human figure. Portraits and faces of women are dominant themes.

"There's nothing more thrilling to me than rendering a face", said Martin. "I truly feel like they channel through me and come from somewhere else. I don't know who they are, and I don't know where they come from. I'm simply obsessed with faces. I have no choice."

Thirteen years ago, when Julia first exhibited her paintings at University School of Nashville's Artclectic show, she became an instant success. She credits the exhibit and the experience as a turning point in her career, enabling her to become a full-time artist.

In December 2013, she opened Julia Martin Gallery, one of Nashville's thriving art galleries, which shows regional, mid-career, and emerging artists.

The Christine Slayden Tibbott Gallery is proud to announce a solo exhibition of over 20 new works by Nashville artist Julia Martin. For this exhibit, Julia continues to push the boundaries of abstraction within the realm of portraiture while maintaining signature elements and an ever more vibrant palette. We hope you'll join us for the opening reception 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15. The exhibit will continue until Tuesday, Oct. 18.
