University School of Nashville's 97th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 29 took place on Magnolia Lawn, which was also the site of the first Commencement of Peabody Demonstration School in 1919.
Before they process across the street to Magnolia Lawn, the seniors gather and robe in the Hassenfeld Library. They help each other with their mortarboards and pose for many pictures. This year, they burst into song--the USN alma mater.
In a USN tradition, the seniors select a classmate to give the main talk. Arpan Sarkar, this year's student speaker, praised his teachers. "One thing I’ve noticed most is the USN teachers’ exceptional ability to integrate personal anecdotes, humor, compassion, and empathy into academic lessons and class discussions. No matter the difficulty of the course or the sometimes staggering amount of material that needs to be covered in a few short months, each teacher strives to make the classroom a warm and joyous place to be."
Steve Robins, retiring head of the high school, said, "I am confident that yours will be lives of discovery and passion and commitment, that you will make a difference in this world, and that you are ready for your next adventures."
Over Fall Break, the Middle School Quiz Bowl team competed at the 14th Annual Fall Invitational Gallatin High School Tournament. Congratulations to USN's top scorer, Lucas Lupu ’31.
