  • recap game #14

Our last game of the regular season ended on a high note with a 7-3 LOSS, but it was probably our BEST game ever.

Our evening started with a meeting and announcement of our Team Captains Sydney Russell DCA, Chris Free DCA, Jesse Small MLK and Joe Orem USN.

We took to the ice and hard hitting and fast skating were evident as we played the Independence/Summit CoOp team even through 2 1/2 periods. Carson Dorfman managed to make 43 saves on a marathon evening of goaltending and he was supported by great defensive play by Townes Haley, Will Bailey, JD Chilton and Sydney Russell.

Offensively we are starting to connect with passing and shooting, as we put up almost 30 shots and 3 goals. Chris Free connected on a Hat Trick with nifty assists from Joe Orem, Caleb Rice, JD Chilton and Charlie Ford.

Three unsung heroes also emerged from this game - Caleb Rice and Drake Dixon did their part by earning some quality shots on goal; and going virtually unnoticed every game is our back up goalie Jordin Palmeri who sits patiently awaiting his opportunity to play (it's gonna come soon JP).

  • recap game #13

Well our holiday break was on full display during the first two periods as we played flat and looked rusty, only to wake up too late during the third, thus taking a 4-3 loss to our opponents.

Despite the loss and the slow start, once our team got going we demonstrated strong offensive play pinning our opponents in their zone. Some crafty stick handling and puck movement opened the door to some quality shots on goal. Finally Joe Orem opened that door, to notch a HAT TRICK and earn star of the game honors.

Now we turn our attention to the last game of the season vs Indy/Summit on Wednesday and I sincerely hope to see y'all there too!

  • recap game #12

We had an uphill battle starting the game minus four key players, and despite the shortcoming, our players played fast and fierce. We are still looking for our first win and searching for line chemistry, but three "fluke" goals put us on our heels!

Goalie Jordin Palmeri did his best to fend off some quality shots. He played with poise and managed some great one on one saves. Charlie Ford and Joe Orem played hard both ways looking for that elusive goal, only to fall short.

The Ironman of the night has to be Drake Dixon, not only because of his gritty two way play, but because he is on the road to Atlanta for a tournament as we speak.

We have a few more games to make it through this gauntlet, and then the Pool Playoffs will begin.

  • recap game #11

Unfortunately "we took it on the chin" sounds like a familiar refrain, as we took a 5-0 loss to Mt.Juliet last night. Except for a few lapses in judgment that resulted in goals, and some would say trash goals, for the most part we played with energy and grit.

Once again Carson Dorfman did not disappoint with some excellent goal tending. Our player highlights included the following: Drake Dixon and Caleb Rice waking up in the second period to poke and prod their way through the opponents and keep them off balance; Sydney Russell skating both ways to provide offensive and defensive support; JD Chilton and Will Bailey lending some strength and size along the boards and in front of the net; and, Joe Orem and Chris Free trying to provide some offensive spark.

Now we look forward to others willing to step up and contribute to a "total team effort" the next time we are on the ice. We are demonstrating improvement week by week, but we are also falling a period short (maybe a few shifts short) of completing a total game.

  • recap game #10

We took to the ice with some trepidation last night missing our ace keeper and in the first period it showed. We dug a hole to a 0-5 deficit and with a Coach Gately pep talk, we competed well in the ensuing two periods only to fall short 9-3.

As a whole, more physical play defensively and spurts of offensive zone puck movement can be celebrated.

Let's take a look at "an anatomy of a goal!" Chris Free notched the first goal of the game skating from end to end with some nifty stick work only to complete his rush by putting a deke on the goalie. Charlie Ford stripped an opponent in the neutral zone and started his rush to the goal, heeding our coaches advice to shoot early. Charlie took a long shot just after the blue line to score! JD Chilton fought hard against two opponents on the boards to come out with the puck, and setup Reid Murray on a wide open pass in the slot and the goalie out of position, netting our last goal. BTW - JD's setup came after Sydney Russell's hard work along the boards on the opposite side. We are all connected in some form or fashion, and that is why it is called a TEAM sport!

A worthy mention, newcomer Nico Nguyen demonstrated some grit yesterday by taking some hits, getting up and playing with poise.
