Mathletes earn top scores

The Mathletes fared well in a tournament at Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro on Thursday, Dec. 6.
The Math Team traveled to Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro for the second Interscholastic Math League contest of the 2018-2019 school year. Nearly 20 area schools came to the contest, and Tiger Mathletes got some victories and some near-victories:
  • Hannah Laibinis '19 was the top overall scorer in the statistics contest. She and Amanda Ding '19 teamed up to give USN its first contest victory of the season, winning the statistics division by 3 points.
  • Grace Yin '22 was fourth overall in the geometry contest.
  • USN finished second as a team in the precalculus division, led by Sheeline Yu '20 and Erica Friedman '20.
  • USN's Algebra 1/Geometry quiz bowl team advanced to the semifinals with a 5-1 win over Ensworth Middle School. The Algebra 2+ quiz bowl team was narrowly defeated by Central Magnet, 5-4.

The next contest will be at Montgomery Bell Academy on Thursday, Feb. 7, and we look forward to seeing what the Tigers can do there.
