Harding Football Drops Opener to BGA

Coach Anderson
The Harding Academy Generals varsity football team hosted Battle Ground Academy on Thursday, August 16 in the opener for both teams. The Generals hung tough with the Wildcats for a good portion of the first half, but ultimately fell by a final score of 30-15. Walker Derryberry (HA '20) connected with Khalil Anderson (USN '23)) on a long halfback pass near the end of the first quarter that took the Generals inside the Wildcat 5 yard line. Chase Franck (HA '19) then connected with Derryberry for the Generals first score to begin the second quarter. Derryberry added the extra point to pull Harding within one, 8-7. On the ensuing two drives, BGA scored twice to put the halftime deficit for Harding at 22-7.

The Generals answered the challenge to continue to fight in the second half. Franck connected with Anderson on a fade route that fell just short of the goaline in the fourth quarter. From the one, Franck snuck the ball in from his quarterback position and then connected with Conor Corby (HA '19) for the two point conversion to set the final score at 30-15.

Harding returns to action on Thursday, September 6th (rescheduled) in an away contest with Mt. Juliet Christian.
