Your Admissions crew is in full stride with tours, shadow visits, panels, coffees, fairs, and… Open House in November. Advertising for that event appears in as diverse media as possible — radio with Nashville Public Radio, print and online in Nashville Parent magazine, The Tennessee Tribune, Nashville Ledger, La Campaña, The East Nashvillian as well as Nolensville, Brentwood, and Bellevue neighborhood websites and old-fashioned flyers at Metro Nashville public libraries. You can help with the equally old-fashioned Open House sign in your yard, which might encourage a neighbor to come. Please let me know if you’d like one of these treasures.
Here’s a quick sketch of the student body demographics for the 2017-2018 school year:
- we are enviably full with 1,067 students, 34 percent of whom self-identify as students of color;
- 21 percent of our K-12 students receive need-based financial aid of over $3.1 million, with an average award of $14,000;
- over 20 percent of our K-12 students come from families where at least one parent is not native to the United States.
And how about some admissions numbers?
- a healthy 7 percent increase in K-12 applications;
- 138 new K-10 students;
- a super low attrition of 3 percent that afforded us just the right amount of selectivity: we accepted 35 percent of our applicants (19 percent for non-siblings); from those offers of admission, 75 percent said yes to USN;
- and of course, the big story: 112 students in the ninth grade, an unplanned-but-delightful result of more “yeses” than is typical to our ninth grade offers of admission; in that group of 37 new freshmen, at least 12 are bilingual.
