Fifth grade hikes for homeless

Support students on their mission to help the homeless by making a pledge for Hike for the Homeless or purchasing goodies at their upcoming bake sale.
 
Connie Fink's Fifth Grade Community Service Group has kicked off the year by focusing on helping families in need.The students are joining forces with Safe Haven Family Shelter, an organization that helps homeless families. Safe Haven partners with other organizations with the goal of eliminating homelessness.

Judy Lewis and Emily Rattle of Safe Haven came to talk to the fifth graders about the organization and its upcoming fundraiser, the 13th Annual Hike for the Homeless. One of the most alarming facts shared was 3,407 Nashville children were homeless in 2016-2017.

Fifth graders are ready to help. The  Fifth Grade Community Service Group will journey through Edwin Warner Park as a team representing USN during Hike For the Homeless to help Safe Haven reach its fundraising goal. The hike on Saturday, Nov. 4 includes a 2.2 and 3.1-mile hike, food, inflatables, face painting, live music, and a climbing wall. Click here for more information.

The community service group also plans to have a school bake sale on Thursday, Oct. 19 to raise awareness about homelessness and to raise funds to donate to Safe Haven.
