Musician visits second grade

by Juanita I.C. Traughber, communications director

Every day serving utensils become instruments for students with a lesson from Spoonman.

Nashville musician Lucius "Spoonman" Talley visited Melissa Sherman’s second grade class on Thursday, Oct. 5. Her students are studying Nashville history and learning about music, and Spoonman’s visit allowed them to hear how to make every day utensils into instruments. He told them stories about how Nashville has changed. He also shared how his family could not afford an instrument when he was young, and he and his siblings used empty soda cans and spoons to entertain adults. After performing to bluegrass, country, and pop tunes, Spoonman taught students how to play the spoons.
