Students build Habitat home for Antioch family

by Ittai Eden '19

High School students added insulation and siding to a house in Antioch last weekend.
On the morning of Sunday, Sept. 10, 26 students in the USN community traveled to Antioch to help build a house for Habitat for Humanity. This program was created to assist people who do not have stable homes, and the candidates for a house must send in an extensive application. If these candidates are accepted, they go through a multitude of classes in finance and home maintenance and must complete 200 hours of volunteer work before receiving their own home. This whole process takes about one to two years.

Our partner homeowner last weekend was a mother working for Metro Nashville Public Schools. She is also studying to be a nurse while caring for her 18-year-old and 6-year-old children. She was at the build and volunteered alongside us students. It was amazing to see her positive attitude, hard work, and dedication in contributing to what will soon become her home. Throughout the day, most students installed insulation around the house and added siding to the outside of the house. By the end of the day, the house had substantially improved. The home will be presented to this family Sunday, Oct. 8, and the High School Habitat for Humanity Club is thankful for this opportunity to help Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville.
