Andy Goldsworthy-Inspired Sculptures by the 3rd Grade

Once upon a time, the third graders were in Kindergarten and did a journey to celebrate the nature-inspired artwork of Andy Goldsworthy. Since that has been a few years and they are studying famous artists in their third grade classrooms, we decided to do that same journey again.

We thought about the question of "What is Art?"  Responses varied, but most agreed that art is a way to show an expression or a feeling.  Art in nature is sometimes ephemeral, like theirs would be...here today, (maybe) gone tomorrow.

Once we arrived to the field that would be our studio in Warner Park, groups began building their sculptures. Sculptures included mud, sticks, rocks, leaves, branches and even ice. Some were tall, others low, and some were wide enough to get inside. All the artists made sketches of their creations so they could remember their work.

Before we left, the class took a walking tour as each artist-pair explained their sculpture.
