2nd Grade Bird Feeder Watch

The second grade naturalists have begun their Feeder Watch. Over the next several months, the second graders will visit USN's Outdoor Classroom to observe and identify the birds (using ID sheets), draw and record with tally marks the number of birds that come to our feeders.
The second grade naturalists have begun their Feeder Watch. Over the next several months, the second graders will visit USN's Outdoor Classroom to observe and identify the birds (using ID sheets), draw and record with tally marks the number of birds that come to our feeders.
Following their Tennessee Animal unit, it is a perfect study. While watching birds, students can observe different bird behavior at the feeder, learn what birds over-winter here and what birds migrate through, all while seeing wildlife up close.
On our first visit, we observed the quick visit of the titmouse and chickadee as they like to cache their seeds, the slow gorging of the finches, and the patience of the mourning dove.
We will look forward to April when we will end our feeder watch and have a certified bird bander on campus to teach us a more scientific aspect of bird watching.
