Get to know the Hassenfeld Library team

Celebrate School Library Month by learning more about the incredible team that makes Hassenfeld Library a popular gathering and programming space for the entire school community.

With nearly 30,000 volumes, numerous study areas, multiple technology access points, archives, and specialized instruction spaces, keeping things running smoothly in Hassenfeld Library takes a talented team of librarians and assistants. Serving K-12 students, faculty, and families wouldn’t be possible without the team members listed below:

Interim Library Director Kate Pritchard joined USN in 2013. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and a master’s in library science from Simmons University. Pritchard chose to become a librarian because she loves both books and people.

“I also really value libraries as community spaces and as places where people can go to ask for help when they’re not sure where else to go,” Pritchard shared.

Her favorite thing about working at USN is the thoughtful, creative, kind, and interesting people she gets to work with each day and who also teach her children. She loves to travel and has visited every continent except Antarctica.

What’s she reading? While Pritchard is working her way through a few newer titles, she’s also slowly rereading a longtime favorite and comfort read of hers —  “The Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Lower School Librarian Emily Theobald joined USN in 2016 and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Vanderbilt University.

“I adore getting kids excited about books,” Theobald shared. “I am especially excited when I get a reluctant reader the right book and help them realize they love to read.”

She enjoys watching students grow up and welcomes older students to return to visit long after they’ve left Lower School. When not at USN, Theobald loves traveling and going on adventures with her family, who recently all got certified to scuba dive. She’s reading “Facing the Mountain: A True Story of Japanese American Heroes in World War II” by Daniel James Brown.

Library Assistant Catherine Lemaire Lozier holds a Bachelor of Arts from Guilford College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tennessee Tech University’s Appalachian Center for Craft. She joined USN in 2016 when she chose to work at the school without knowing she’d land in Hassenfeld Library where she’s since welcomed the privilege of getting to connect with students over books.

“USN encourages its students to be themselves: bright, creative, and outspoken. I love being part of that,” Lemaire Lozier reflected.

In her spare time, Lemaire Lozier runs a small business as a potter as well. At the end of the 2022-2023 academic year, she’ll transition to focusing on her craft full time leaving a vacancy in the Library team

What’s Lemaire Lozier reading now? “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Library Assistant Kristin Frank joined the team in Hassenfeld in 2017. She holds a bachelor's degree from Emory University and  is most often found welcoming students at the lower level circulation desk. She loves books and helping introduce people to books they’ll love, so working in Hassenfeld Library was a natural fit.

"My favorite thing about working at USN is watching our students grow and learn," Frank shared.

Not to mention, she's truly dedicated to her role. Frank read 90 novels last year and more picture books than she could count. She’s reading “The House of Eve” by Sadeqa Johnson.

Archivist Kat Trammell '99 returned to 2000 Edgehill in 2021. She holds a bachelor’s in studio art from Macalester College and a master’s in public history from Middle Tennessee State University. She is enrolled in a master of science program in information science at University of Tennessee, Knoxville as well. As a graduate of USN, she was drawn to return because of the culture and community here. Trammell can often be found uncovering some long-forgotten photograph or document tucked away on the third floor of Hassenfeld.

“I believe it is vitally important for a society to know and understand its history — the good, the bad, and the ugly,” Trammell shared. “Archives are the bridge that links us with the tangible elements of our collective past.”

When not at work, Trammell takes part in a variety of hobbies including hiking, gardening, and foraging for wild, edible, and medicinal plants.

When asked what she is reading, Trammell laughed, “Does the latest issue of The Atlantic count?”

In addition to Lemaire Lozier’s position as a Library Assistant, University School of Nashville also seeks a Director of Library Services and an Instructional Librarian. View all available job openings at usn.org/jobs
