First Game of Many!

It's great to play softball again!
This was not only the Tiger’s first softball game of the season, but it was also the first softball game of a few years! This program has been revived due to the dedication and drive of a strong sophomore class, their parents, and a freshmen class eager to be key characters in this next chapter of USN softball. While everyone has been anticipating this game for a long time, it was clear there were nerves playing against a district varsity team.

Alena Ellis led things off on the rubber for the Tigers and ended up lasting the entire 4 innings with a total 107 pitch count with a 47% strike percentage, a big improvement and accomplishment for the first year pitcher.

Throughout the game Webb showed major strength and power, sending line drives deep into center and left field. While it intimidated many players, Amelie Soslow and Grayson Princehorn made the correct adjustments (stepping back) and both made stellar catches off of hard hits! Grayson (left), Amelie (center), and Alice Littlehale (right) also had many other line drives they were able to track down and keep in front of them, which helped keep their offense from earning more runs.

USN’s co-captains Asauda Radford and Caroline Keiper also demonstrated their leadership by taking pitchs from a Webb pitcher who had significant speed and movement and earn walks to help give USN great scoring position. Grayson also showed her metal and her determination by getting hit, which helped generate more energy and offense!

During the bottom of the third Caroline really brought the crowd to its feet with a great hit into left field, which earned her a double, but also sent two people home!

It was such an exciting game! The mistakes and triumphs showed that this team is headed in the right direction. Even from the scrimmages early in the season to this first game, the improvement has been tremendous. While we continue to cultivate this culture of growth, please keep supporting these student-athletes as they strive to make this program as best as it's ever been, and also as they grow into the best leaders and people they can be. GO TIGERS!
