Last Scrimmage of the Season!

Katie Roth
Loss 2-15, but some great first time pitching from Alena Ellis and a lot of awesome defensive plays from our infield and outfield!
Our second and last scrimmage of the season. It was against Ensworth high school and it was a daunting challenge. The Ensworth Tigers team looked bigger and stronger than our USN Tigers and that impression affected the confidence we built from last week’s scrimmage. Despite that waver in mentality, USN had some amazing plays in the top of the first. Alena Ellis, who has only been pitching two months, earned USN’s first out of the inning with a strikeout! Ash Weinman then made a great tag play at third, and 2nd baseman Ellie Rothman connected with Jessica Penilton at first to get USN out of the inning. In the bottom of the first it was Amelie Soslow who shines as USN’s lead off hitter. She continues with her 100% on base percentage with another amazing bunt down the first base line. With the help of her teammates, Amelie was moved around the bases to get USN’s first run of the game!

Going into the second inning Ensworth was winning 1-3. In the second inning Ensworth began turning up the heat and had many solid hits to the outfield, however USN’s outfielders – Alice Littlehale, Amelie Soslow, and Eleanor Molvig – did a spectacular job keeping the ball in front, which prevented more Ensworth offensive opportunities. After a long inning USN was able to earn 3 outs, but unfortunately couldn’t find any momentum on offense during the bottom of the second. This led to Esnworth taking a commanding lead 12-1.

In the third inning Alena Ellis earned another two strikeouts! And at the bottom of the third Victoria White comes home for another USN run with the help of Jessica Penilton’s single! The game ends 2-15. In the end there were some awesome outfield catches, infield tags, and overall improvement everywhere! As we continue to grow we will learn how to generate and then control our momentum. Our first and third innings prove we have a lot of bright side, so let’s rally behind moments and continue to shine! Go Tigers!
