February celebrations of Black History Month can differ by individual, group, and school community. However, celebration — of all kinds — is essential to the remembrance of Black Americans' past, their current excellence, and future endeavors.

As Black students, we, in BSU, wanted to create a space where all students, faculty, and community members could celebrate Black history, culture, and traditions together — with this sense of community at the center of the celebration. This Black History Month celebration is the first of its kind at USN, marking the start of a (hopefully) annual tradition in the USN community.

The Black Student Union is both extremely grateful and ecstatic to collaborate with Director of Auxiliary Programs Rebecca Stokes and the After School team for this celebration; and, we would like to extend our gratitude to her for allowing us to be part of this truly special celebration.

The Black History Month celebration will take place on Friday, February 24 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in the Sperling Center. Admission is free, and there will be student and local performances, food from local Black-owned restaurants, and activities for individuals of all ages. We hope that you will join us in this unique celebration of not only Black history, but also Black present, culture, and traditions. We cannot wait to see you all there.
