Black Student Union hosts annual toy drive

The High School's Black Student Union is hosting its annual toy drive now through Thursday, December 15. For ideas on what to purchase, find popular requested toys on the wishlist here. Amazon purchases can be delivered directly to the school and should be addressed to Office of Diversity & Community Life Director Roderick White.

The Black Student Union is a student-led affinity group that offers Black students a safe environment for unfiltered conversations, education around the overall Black-student culture at USN, and a celebration of the camaraderie that we have created within this environment.

The holidays are rapidly approaching and can be a particularly challenging time of year for some of our neighbors in the Edgehill community. Not everyone has the ability or means to provide gifts for their children during the holiday season, and BSU wants to help fill the gap of gifts for Edgehill children.

As a result, BSU is hosting a toy drive for children ages 3-10, and all donations will be given to a community center in the Edgehill area to distribute to families. Ultimately, we want to bring joy into this season — for all Nashvillians — so we would love support and donations from families throughout USN.

The toy drive began on Wednesday, November 16 and will end on Thursday, December 15. There are donation bins at the 19th Avenue entrance, in front of the Durnan Auditorium, in front of Hassenfeld Library, and in front of the Payne Library Room on the third floor.

Some gift ideas could be children's books, toy cars, fire trucks, fidget toys, LOL Surprise Dolls, and other items that can be found at local retailers. We do ask that all toy donations be new, so if you have any toys laying around in their original packaging, do not hesitate to bring them in.

BSU wholeheartedly appreciates your support this holiday season. If you have any questions, please email BSU President Gabrielle White '23. Thank you so much for helping us bring joy to children in our community this holiday season.
