Thirty-seven Middle School students put their knowledge to the test in the quiz bowl team's latest outing.
By Richard Rosenthal, MS Latin & Quiz Bowl Coach
On Saturday, January 22, a record 37 Middle School students made up nine teams to compete in a two-match scrimmage against the Greenhill School in Addison, Texas.
An unusual opponent for USN given the two teams' lack of proximity, Greenhill is one of the best teams in the nation, so the team was thankful technology could help make this special opportunity possible.
The 37 students who participated are: Ayla Acra '27, Elinor Bird '29, Surina Birdee '29, Charlie Blau '27, Basil Broemel '28, Olivia Brown '27, Preston Chan '29, Clio Cherry-Pulay '29, Lily Duong '28, Lucia Gellert '27, Evan Giles '26, Jackson Green '26, Asha Guha '28, Sebastian Hetrick '28, Asher Huffman '29, Harper Hughey '29, Henry Knowles '26, Flora Li '27, Laney Martin '29, Devin McAteer '28, Eesha Nachnani '28, Ishaan Nachnani '28, Krish Nachnani '28, Garrett Northwall '28, Dylan Omary '27, Jaymin Pastakia '26, Karsen Puzniak '27, Aaron Raney '27, Ruchika Ramachandran '27, Coco Shepard '27, Vihaan Sinha '29, Kevin Song '28, Elliott Spiller '27, Annie Williamson '28, Louise Williamson '26, and Suzie Zhao '28.
It took many volunteers to run this tournament for these two enormous teams. Our students are grateful to High School quiz bowl team members Adeolu Ajayi '22, Jay Bivens '25, and Ophelia Cherry-Pulay '25 along with Sixth Grade Science Teacher Amy Dortch, Fifth Grade Social Studies Teacher Connie Fink, MS Spanish Teacher Sibley Kelly '91, Seventh Grade Science Teacher Heather Webber '82, and alumnus Eric Rosenthal '15 for volunteering and making this unique opportunity possible.
University of Virginia selected Margot Ross '24 to be a Jefferson Scholar. The highly selective scholarship includes the full cost of attending UVA for four years of study as well as numerous enrichment opportunities. It has been 16 years since a University School of Nashville senior last became a Jefferson Scholar.
