By Trent Boysen, Arts Department Co-Chair
Congratulations to the winners of the 30th Annual Middle Tennessee Scholastic Art Awards. In an academic year where it seems that not much at USN is running as normal, this year’s competition was a welcomed start to the new calendar year.
USN Arts Department faculty are extremely proud of the work that our students have accomplished and the work they continue to create in and out of our studios. All of these High School students started the year producing artwork remotely, leaving their mark on walls and floors across the region. And while many have returned to campus, those self-designated creative spaces have become an important ingredient in the work they produce. Many thanks to all our art students; your continued drive during this often chaotic time inspires our best every day.
This year 14 USN HS students received 40 total awards.
The 2021 Middle Tennessee Scholastic Art Awards are one of the most prestigious student art competitions nationwide. Gold Key works will be displayed physically, Silver Key works will be displayed digitally on a screen in the exhibition space.
As a part of Read Across USN Week, Middle School language learners read the same novel in their respective languages and worked together to complete a group activity based on the novel.
YMCA of Middle Tennessee Youth in Government program participant Ophelia Cherry Pulay '25 traveled to Washington, D.C. with a delegation of Middle Tennessee leaders to meet with Congressional members.
