Black HS faculty, admin host 'A Summer Salon Series'

USN Black administrators and High School faculty are hosting educational experiences for High School students that are also open to alumni. Through this virtual series taking place at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Black faculty will lead thought-provoking conversations with community activists and academics on race, intersectionality, protests, and allyship.

All High School students and their families will receive a day-before event reminder email with the Zoom link & materials to read or watch before each discussion. Alumni may click here to register for this free series. A Summer Salon Series will be recorded and available for parents, parents of alumni, and the general public to view on the school's YouTube channel. During "How to Be a Change Agent: Lessons from the Civil Rights Movement" on June 30, history makers King Hollands and Gloria McKissack share stories from the Nashville Sit-Ins and integrating public & private schools. Click here to watch the recording.

In a July 7 conversation exploring the complexities of race and intersectionality, students & alumni drew from Dr. Jocelyn Imani's research on student activism and cultural expression along with Dr. Rosevelt Noble’s scholarship of the racial disparities of the American criminal justice system. Click here to watch the recording of "Race, Intersectionality, and the 21st Century Discourse: Social Media and Its Discontents."

In the final installment of the series on July 14, Dr. Nii-Quarterlai Quartey, Senior Advisor and National LGBT Liaison at AARP, bought the much-needed scholar-practitioner perspective to our conversation of vibrant activism.
