Happy 2020, everyone! There are a lot of things to celebrate: a new year, a new decade, the commencement of the second half of the school year … oh yeah, and Music Night.
If you’ve been living under a rock, or if you’re new to USN (and are still learning about the many events held here),
Music Night is one of our annual fundraisers that doubles as a parent’s night out. It’s an evening of great music for those 21 and up featuring some of Nashville’s musicians, often who are USN parents, alumni, or friends. To further showcase our incredibly-talented community, Joe Getsi & the K-12 Situation (USN’s house band comprised of faculty, staff, and alumni) always kicks off the evening. The proceeds from Music Night help support
the USN Green Roof Initiative as well as the Arts and Athletic Departments.
This month I spoke with Susan Meador, who is co-chairing this year’s Music Night with USN parent Brandi Bennett. Susan was inspired by former USNA President Tonia Klein to become a chair for Music Night, and before long, roped Brandi into becoming her co-chair.
Susan has been involved with the USNA for five years, since her daughter Ruby '28 started kindergarten. She’s served as Room Parent, volunteered for Helping Hands and Music Night, and has even done science experiments with classes. It only makes sense then that Susan is teaching physics at USN this spring semester. Along with Ruby, Susan and husband, Murray, have another daughter, Clementine '31, at USN.
When asked if there was anything she’d like to share about Music Night, Susan exclaimed, “The musical talent at USN is phenomenal. It is a super fun night, no matter who plays. It is definitely one of the most fun nights of the year.”
The date for this year’s Music Night is Sunday, February 16. Do yourselves a favor. Get a sitter and buy your tickets as soon as they go on sale.
