2019 River Campus Classic Recap

Coach Balzer
This past weekend (March 9-10), we hosted the River Campus Classic 2019.  While the weather Saturday was definitely challenging, Sunday was a complete turnaround.  A special thanks to the family volunteers who braved the rain, wind, and mud to make this a success.  Also, thanks to Metta Devine-Qin who kept the information flowing throughout.

Fourteen teams from the southeast participated this year, 10 boys and 4 girls. The Hornets from Knoxville took the girls’ championship and PI from Louisville the boys’ championship.  USN girls came in second place and the USN boys tied for third.

Teams that participated in the girls’ bracket were:  Knoxville Hornets, Brookwood from Atlanta, Independence from Middle Tennessee and USN.
Teams that participated in the boy’s bracket were:  Brookwood (Atlanta), Independence (Mid TN), Rivers’ Edge (Knoxville), Ravenwood (Brentwood), Forge (Birmingham), McCallie (Chattanooga), Pi (Lexington), Hornets  (Knoxville), STEM (Knoxville) and USN.

This year, the girls’ team has only 3 seniors with the remainder of the team comprised of sophomores and freshmen.  They are focused, hard working and show great improvement and enthusiasm for the game since the beginning of the season.  We are excited to see the team continue to find success this season!

Up next:  Paideia Cup  April 27-28 in Atlanta!
