Tigers Plate Two Runs in Season Opener

The Tigers made their 2019 debut against Grace Christian at the River Campus on Monday, March 11. Though USN fell short of the victory, the team played soundly and was able to get the bats going by the end of the contest.

Madeline Aikin '19 got the final inning started with an infield single, and took advantage of a dropped ball by promptly stealing an extra base. Amara Payne '19 hit Aikin over to third on a sacrifice hit, and Ainsley McMillan '22 was fanned to earn the free pass to first. With two on and one out, co-captain Ellie Yemm '20 laced a single to clear the bases and end the game on a high note.

Other Highlights:
  • Madeleine - Got the team's first official hit of the season, then proceeded to make positive things happen on the bases with aggressive baserunning.
  • Breah - Pitched the entire game and showed some real resiliency out there by remaining mentally tough throughout.
  • Ainsley - Made her debut as a high school catcher, and assisted on two (maybe 3?) put-outs at the plate.
  • There's still work to do hitting-wise, but nearly everyone put a bat on a ball yesterday. This is not a shabby place to start. Defensivly, (and with a lot of players playing in new or unfamiliar positions) we were solid on stopping the ball and will continue to work on making good decisions and accurate throws.
