Tigers Compete at MTHSSA Championships

Coach G
As Coach and I went through and broke down the meet we realized that 96% of our kid's experienced a PR, considering relays and split times. Congrats again on a job well done!

The meet started off with a bang, eight bright blue capped heads walked with purpose and excitement to the blocks as we kicked off our marathon day with medley relays. Both Olivia B. (6) and Emma S. (7) were tasked with the opening leg and both delivered with new personal bests. As we moved back over to the boys' pool it was time for the 200 free where we had two entries. Reed K. (8) and Dean S. (5), Reed posted a career best at 2:19.63 which was good enough for finals and Dean dropped 26 seconds!!!!!! to qualify as an alternate that evening.

Back over to the girls' pool saw the 50 free well under way with 263 ambitious swimmers taking the blocks one heat at a time. Taylor I. (8), Margot R. (7), Lin Z. (5), Jessica P. (7), Myla W. (8), Elle P. (6), and Morgan M. (5) all posted career bests in the 50 free. Not to be out done, in the shallow pool Owen B. (8), Dhruv R. (7), Mark L. (7), Jordan BG (5), and Sawyer B. (6) kept the momentum rolling by posting their own fastest times to date.

The 100 fly is a tough race no matter the age but in middle school as you transition from the 50 to the 100 it can be extremely exhausting. Of the five swimmers we entered into the 100 fly we had ALL 5 qualify to come back later in the day for finals. Way to go Anna H. (6), Dhruv (7), Reed (8), and Leo F. (6). In the finals that night Anna posted a 2nd career best of 1:07.89 and set the new 100 fly record in the process!

The brag fest continues into the 100 free where Ivy C. (8), Taylor (8), Lin (5), Margot (7), Maya G. (7), Myla (8), Jessica (7), Jordan (5), and Sawyer (6) just kept getting faster.

Now the 500 free is traditionally swam right in the middle of the meet and many swimmers and spectators look at this race as time to relax. But for the 2 iron-women we had competing in this event it is anything but. In fact at the HVAC's the 500 is one of the most competitive events with 24 swimmers, thats more than the 100 fly! A big shout out to  Eleanor S. (8) and Emma (7) for two very gutsy swims. To make this 20 lap race even more difficult it was slated at the end of the entire meet program. So if your first race was at 9:30am, you had your final race somewhere around 1:30pm. Way to go!

Our girls 200 free relays took to the pool next and we were able to swim fast enough to come back for finals. At finals the team of Olivia B. (6), Tate B. (6), Anna (6), and Olivia S. (7) swam well enough for 3rd place overall and the 2nd fastest all time relay for USN middle school swimming with a 1:52.66.

The 100 backstroke was and we were fortunate enough to bring back 3 swimmers for the evening session. Olivia (8), Tate (6), and Jacob Rothman (8). In addition, Leo (6) an Dean (5) all went a new personal best as well. In the finals session Olivia had her best swim by 4 seconds and moved up to the top spot on the all time record board.

The 100 breaststroke was also no stranger to personal bests, Olivia B (6), Owen B. (8), and Eleanor S. (8) all dropped more than a second to claim new personal bests. Owen's new PR was good enough to be brought back for his first finals experience, way to go!

The culminating event was the 400 freestyle relay which saw both of our relays qualify for finals at the 6 seed. Later that evening we were lucky enough to go even faster and BOTH boys and girls relays now hold the fastest stop on the USN record board.

Overall, what an incredible meet. Thank you to the parents for sifting through your inboxes on an almost daily basis for some form of communication from us.
