Overview
University School of Nashville is a K-12, independent, co-educational, non-sectarian day school established in 1975 as the successor to Peabody Demonstration School. USN is known for its academic excellence and for its commitment to putting students first.

Location
USN’s main campus is in the university area of Nashville, and a suburban 80-acre River Campus provides playing fields, an eight-lane track, eight tennis courts, and a wetland site for science research.

  • Brief History of the School

    USN is the successor to Peabody Demonstration School, which was founded in 1915 by Peabody College. In 1975, when the college could no longer support the Demonstration School, a group of parents, teachers, and students founded University School, dedicated to the PDS principles of academic excellence, educational best practice, and inclusion.

  • College Placement

    The 94 alumni in the Class of 2018 have enrolled in 67 different four-year colleges in
    24 states. Two students are taking a gap year. Seventeen percent of the Class of 2018 was recognized in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Their mean SAT and ACT scores were 1340 and 29.3, respectively.
  • The Arts

    In Middle School, students may choose among 36 classes per academic year in performing and visual arts. The entire school community looks forward to Middle School students opening the curtain for each new year with its annual musical in August. 

    High School students are able to choose from more than 30 performing and visual art electives each semester, including the student newspaper, yearbook, and literary magazine, and have more than a dozen performance opportunities every year. High School theatre and dance shine a spotlight on student-directed and student-choreographed productions through Scene Night and the Spring Dance Concert.
  • Athletics

    Beginning in fifth grade, USN students compete in these inter-scholastic sports: volleyball, golf, cross country, soccer, bowling, basketball, swimming, track and field, tennis, lacrosse, baseball, mountain biking, softball, football, and ultimate frisbee. In middle school USN competes in the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference and in high school in TSSAA Division II-A.

    At the Edgehill campus, student athletes use two gymnasiums, an indoor saltwater pool, and a large fitness center. The 80-acre River Campus provides a baseball field, a softball field, a soccer field surrounded by an eight-lane track, two lacrosse fields, two practice fields, eight tennis courts, and a wetland site for science research.
