Distinguished Alumnus Marshall Moutenot '09, founder of Upstream, will address graduating seniors during Convocation at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21 in the Auditorium.
University School of Nashville will host Convocation for seniors and their families at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21. The Class of 2018 will hear from Distinguished Alumnus Marshall Moutenot '09, founder of Upstream.
After gaining a broad set of technical and product experience at early stage technology companies, Moutenot was left wondering how technologists could address climate change. In 2017, he decided to pursue a route of direct impact, co-founding public benefit corporation Upstream. Using satellite imagery, environmental datasets, and machine learning, Upstream powers decision making at conservation groups such as The Nature Conservancy, The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the Environmental Defense Fund.
In 2018, Moutenot was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 in the Energy category, served on a panel for the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and was selected by the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space for the International Space Station Cotton Sustainability Challenge, sponsored by Target Corp.
Convocation officially marks the beginning of our graduates’ transition from students to alumni of USN/PDS. Each year a graduate of University School of Nashville or its predecessor, Peabody Demonstration School, speaks at Convocation to tell stories, offer advice, and take questions from students. A reception will follow the program.
