Debate Team wraps up season in Atlanta

Morayo ‘22 and Elena ‘22 placed second and sixth, respectively in the first-year division.

The debate team had a great start to Spring Break at the First and Second Year National Championships at Woodward Academy.
In the first-year division, Caroline Cramer '22 and Laura Harris '22 finished the preliminary competition with wins over Berkeley Prep of Florida, The Meadows School of Nevada, Greenhill School of Texas and Georgetown Day School of Washington, D.C. and losses to Niles West High School of Illinois and McDonogh School of Maryland. They earned the ninth seed in the 16-team bracket and won 2-1 decision late Saturday, March 16 night over Carrollton Sacred Heart of Florida before losing a split decision the following morning to Westminster of Georgia in the quarterfinal round. The teams of Morayo Kassim '22 and Elena Wierich '22 and Nell Cox '22 and Greta Li '22 both finished with 3-3 records. Morayo and Elena were the second and sixth place speakers in the division.

In the second-year pool, the teams of Oscar Fox '21 and Mayowa Kassim '21 and Christopher Cheek '21 and Niles Clancy '21 both finished with 3-3 records in a stacked pool. Wiley Barzelay '21 and Lucas Heckers '21 finished 1-5 on the weekend.
