Celebrating the Class of 2023

From Dr. Walker

Class of 2023 and Families--

Welcome back from Spring Break. And welcome to the final chapters of your time on Edgehill.

Think back to your freshman year. Unbeknownst to you, we started invoking metaphors about writing books about your high school experience. You were taking classes like Biology and English 9; you were going to your first club fair in the auditorium. You were thinking about how to navigate your first dance on campus – anyone remember the theme and when it was?

Whether you remember the theme or not, you’ve come quite the distance.  And there’s still much distance to travel between now and May 21.

You and I can both agree that most quality novels have closing chapters that are absolutely scintillating – full of action, resolution, and excitement.

Some of those events that will undoubtedly make their way into your final pages:

Just as you’re busy writing your final pages, we too are busy preparing for things to come. We’ll be back in touch with information about parents and family programming that we provide to help launch you into the world. You’ll hear more from the College Counseling Office as you finalize the details of your next stops. Soon, we will launch our Class of 2023 Commencement Season website that contains additional information and details about the events above as well as a few surprises along the way.

We’re working hard to make these last chapters at Edgehill all that you hope for. Students, keep writing those chapters – there’s goodness yet to be written. Families – keep loving on your young ones at home.

I’m so proud of the young adults you’re becoming.

Event Details:

Convocation: Monday, May 15th at 7:00 P.M., immediate family and faculty will gather in the Durnan Auditorium as we welcome the Class of 2023 into the USN/PDS Alumni Association. This evening, formally known as Convocation, marks the beginning of our formal Commencement Week activities. Of the events of the week, Convocation is perhaps the most formal of them all – an official welcome, the presentation of a Distinguished Alumni award, and reception all highlight the evening’s events.

Senior Day: Thursday, May 18th at 9:00 A.M., we’ll host a full slate of programming to honor the seniors as a class, prepare them for commencement, and look toward their new roles as alumni of USN. Led by Matthew Haber, Dean of the Senior Class, Senior Day concludes with Commencement Rehearsal beginning at 2:00 P.M. This rehearsal will help familiarize graduates with the exact elements of Commencement Day. Graduates also receive their caps, gowns, and other needed details of the Commencement celebration.

Commencement: Sunday, May 21st. Whether this is your first or final child to graduate from USN, Commencement is one of USN’s hallmark moments. Imbued by the spirit of both gratitude and revelry, USN’s Commencement Exercises take place on the back lawn of University School promptly at 2:00 P.M. Seating opens at 12:30 P.M. under the tent. There are no assigned seats per se; rather, there are designated areas for immediate family to sit closer to the front of the tent with other seating reserved for friends of the graduates and the USN community. We have seating for almost 2000 people at the ceremony – it truly is a come-one, come-all event.
*If you need special accommodations for a guest with mobility challenges, please make arrangements with Laura Snow by Wednesday, May 17th. Should you have questions, please reach out to myself or Laura at any time. Happy to help.
