Back-to-School Guide 2019

USN faculty and staff are excited to welcome back students Tuesday, Aug. 13. Please use this webpage to guide your family through the first week of school. It contains essential information regarding orientations, transportation, lunch plans, and events to kick off the 2019-2020 school year.
Special Events
The Back-to-School Popsicle Party is 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 on May Plaza at the 19th Avenue entrance. See old friends and new faces while enjoying ice cream and dairy-free delights.

Middle School Theater presents “Frozen Jr.” as its annual musical. The cast and technical crew of fifth through eighth graders began rehearsing and building their set in mid-July. This production is appropriate for all ages and sells out each year. Check back Sunday, Aug. 4 for tickets and showtimes.

Kindergarten
Parent Dinner: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 in the Auditorium
Parents & Students: 1:15 or 2:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 in Kindergarten Classrooms and the LS Music Room

Grades 1-4
New Parents: Coffee 10 to 11 a.m.  Friday, Aug. 9 in Sperling Cafeteria
Students: 8:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Their Classrooms
All Parents: Coffee from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Sperling Cafeteria

Middle School
New Students: 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 welcome tours for students new to MS
New Parents: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in the  Gordon Multipurpose Room

High School
New Students: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 for ninth-grade students and new HS students 
New Parents: 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12 in the Payne Library Room for ninth-grade parents and new HS parents 
Ninth Grade Parents: Saturday, Aug. 24

First Week of School

Middle School Half Day: 7:50 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
High School Full Day: 8:25 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cafeteria Lunch Plans
The lunch plan offers the option of paying one time for a year's worth of meals for first through 12th graders. The kindergarten options include a one-day-a-week meal plan and/or a daily milk plan. Click here for more information, and register at usn.org/cafeteria.

Transportation
Morning Bus Service brings students from four parts of town to the Edgehill campus. There is no cost for the first week of school, and the entire year is $300 per family. Click here for pick-up routes and times. Click here to register, and contact Operations Director Erik Mash with questions.
EasyRide is a free pass for High School students to take public transportation to school. Students interested in signing up for free bus passes should see Administrative Assistant to Head of High School Debbie Fulcher in the High School Office. Click here to read more on this program.

Textbooks
The USN Bookstore is open for textbook ordering at bookstore.usn.org. Middle School families should use the “Shop by Grade” drop-down menu on the left. High School families should use the “Shop by Course Title” drop-down menu on the right. If a course is not listed, books are not required for that course. Click on the title of each book to order. Bookstore hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Books should be picked up by Saturday, Aug. 3. Supplies
Tennessee’s sales tax holiday is 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 26 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 28. Shoppers can purchase school supplies, computers and accessories, and clothing without the usual sales tax.
