Only a power outage could slow down our debaters at Atlanta's Chattahoochee HS last weekend, where USN competed against teams from 26 schools throughout the Southeast.
The varsity team of Hannah Wolfson and Zach Babat was a perfect 4-0 before the lights went out for over four hours Saturday afternoon. They finished preliminary competition as the 8th seed in a 46 team pool. Hannah was recognized as the 9th speaker in a competitive field.
Elimination rounds were cancelled in the novice division due to the lengthy delay. Four USN teams would have qualified for the 16 team bracket in the 50 team field. Hannah Laibinis and Arjun Dasari (6th), Sonali Dasari and Annie French (9th), Alex Dano and Evan Rork (10th) all finished with 4-1 records. Haley Harris and Olivia Wierum (13th) and Sarah Stack and Shriya Karam finished with 3-2 records.
Paul Reich did an outstanding job working with the younger debaters. The team is already busy preparing for its next debates in Atlanta and Ann Arbor.
