With the original date of the Nashville section of the Chemistry Olympiad cancelled due to snow and ice, three motivated scholars took it upon themselves to take the test over Spring Break.
Those efforts proved fruitful, as all three placed in the top six in the section. Lydia Warren placed second overall, followed closely by Starina D'souza and Sarah Young, who tied for fourth (Sarah would place higher as a result of her performance on certain tiebreaking questions). In the absence of a team competition due to the weather cancellation, I interpret those results as a second straight Local section victory for USN.
With rules limiting each school's next level qualifiers to two, Lydia and Sarah will take the National level test in a few weeks' time.

University of Virginia selected Margot Ross '24 to be a Jefferson Scholar. It has been 16 years since a University School of Nashville senior last became a Jefferson Scholar.
