The USN Dance Program has recently had the privilege of working with two alumni choreographers in preparation for the upcoming Spring Dance Concert.
Emma Smith (Class of 2013) is a sophomore at Connecticut College majoring in Dance. She visited in January and worked with a group of dancers to create a modern piece about overcoming obstacles in a new environment.
Julia Garrison (Class of 2008), now a law student at Georgetown University, this year returned to her alma mater for the fifth time to set two hip hop pieces. Because of inclement weather, many rehearsals for these pieces were cancelled. However, Julia made room in her busy schedule to come to USN for a second weekend to continue working with the dancers.
The first dance she created features a small group of women and focuses on the meaning of feminism. The second is a larger piece to a popular, upbeat song. We are grateful for Emma and Julia’s time and dedication to the USN High School Dance Program, and we look forward to performing these pieces in May at Ingram Hall.
Sgt. Anthony Jones joined University School of Nashville in November as a School Resource Officer, a certified police officer who is primarily assigned to a school and provides safety and security-related functions, including emergency response, safety training, traffic direction, and patrol functions.
University of Virginia selected Margot Ross '24 to be a Jefferson Scholar. The highly selective scholarship includes the full cost of attending UVA for four years of study as well as numerous enrichment opportunities. It has been 16 years since a University School of Nashville senior last became a Jefferson Scholar.
