The MS Mathletes spent this lovely Saturday at the Regional Mathcounts competition at the Adventure Science Center.
Between 15-20 schools and well over 100 participants attended; USN enjoyed our strongest showing in quite a few years.
The school team (Hannah Laibinis, Olivia Leu, Annie French, and Shriya Karam) placed a close 4th overall, behind only MBA, MLK, and Woodland Middle. As math department head Cindy Crenshaw says of this team, "To watch these girls discuss mathematics is like watching synergy in action. Ever since they entered middle school, they have proven that powerful mathematical inquiry is clearly gender neutral."
For the first time in memory USN had three students place in the top 15 spots:
14 Annie French
12 Shriya Karam
7 Hannah Laibinis
Hannah's Top 8 finish ensures her a place on the Middle Tennessee Mathcounts Team at the State Competition in a few weeks. Congratulations to her and to all our team members!
University of Virginia selected Margot Ross '24 to be a Jefferson Scholar. The highly selective scholarship includes the full cost of attending UVA for four years of study as well as numerous enrichment opportunities. It has been 16 years since a University School of Nashville senior last became a Jefferson Scholar.
