Summer Tiger Camp

For rising grades K-2

Every day brings a new kind of fun for kids in Summer Tiger Camp. Children will enjoy a week of arts and crafts, free play, drama and music, and movement. 

Cost $150

8:30-11:30

 

Knitting/Crocheting camp

For rising grades 2-8

Join in the fun of this camp and to learn to knit or crochet.  You don’t need prior knowledge, but those who already know how to knit or crochet are encouraged to attend.  We will provide yarn and the needles.  Each student will make a scarf or a hat (or both, if you are an experienced knitter).  We will listen to music, watch movies, and chat while we practice our skills.

Reading Skills: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh

For rising grade 5, limited to 14 students  

This four-day book group supports students who are reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh, a required summer reading book for USN's rising 5th graders.  Through shared reading, as

well as creative and interactive exercises, students will improve their reading comprehension skills and have fun with the book.  Molly McSwiggin, USN’s middle school learning specialist, leads the camp. Students should bring their own copy of the book and a healthy snack and drink.

Cost:    $175.00

Beginning Drumming

For rising grades 6-12
Learn how to get in the groove with real African drums! In this course you will learn the basics of playing the famed African djembe hand drum known as the "happy thing" and the stick drums known as dunduns which totally boom the room! And we'll play with other percussion instruments like shakers, bells, claves, and Boom Whackers. You'll see amazing video of the coolest drummers and dancers on the planet, and you’ll experience the big fun of the American style drum circle as well as learn some traditional African songs with universal rhythms that have influenced so much music all over the world. If you walk, breathe, eat, and sleep, then you have rhythm and we can develop it into some serious fun. Drums are provided, or you can bring your own.
