Week 2: June 16 – 20

 

Beginning Spanish

For rising grades 1-6, grouped in grades 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6

Teachers us fun and effective TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) methods of language instruction.  These innovative methods teach language through body movements, commands, and stories, much as we learned our first language as young children. See more at www.acceleratedacquisition.com.

Fun and Games in Spanish

For rising grades 1-6

For more learning and practice of Spanish, send your child with a brown-bag lunch, and the other half of the day he/she can enjoy “Fun & Games in Spanish.”  In this program, children will improve their Spanish by interacting with bilingual adults and children.  They’ll practice Spanish with hands-on activities like playing board games, reading books, playing sports, singing, and art.  Spanish teachers will facilitate conversation in “Fun & Games” to complement TPR/TPRS Spanish classes during the other half of the day.

Beginning French

For rising grades 1-4, grouped in grades 1-2 and 3-4

Boost your child’s language skill, academic performance, and enthusiasm for learning French in this fun and motivating class designed for all types of learners.  You’ll be amazed by how quickly your child will think, write, and speak French in this playful setting full of stories and drama. Beginning Mandarin Chinese

For rising grades 1-3

Boost your child’s language skill, academic performance, and enthusiasm for learning Chinese in this fun and motivating class designed for all types of learners.  You’ll be amazed by how quickly your child will think, write and speak Chinese in this playful setting full of stories and drama. Josephine Huang teaches Chinese in Nashville to students ages 18 months to 18 years at USN, USN AfterSchool, Harpeth Hall, Nashville Christian School, Nashville Chinese School, and Families with Children from China (FCC).  A specialist in Early Childhood Education, she earned a B.A. in English from the National Cheng-Chi University in Taipei, a Master of Science, and a Master of Education.

Boys’ Track and Field Camp

For rising grades K-10

Boys will enjoy the relaxed camp setting as they learn the fundamentals of track and field with USN’s varsity track coach Zaf Ahmed. The sport of track and field appeals to every child who enjoys running, jumping, and throwing. Our camp could be the beginning of a passion for track and field. We will help you run faster, jump higher and throw farther!  This camp has a 10:1 camper to coach ratio.

International Puppetry Fun

For rising grades K-2

This class introduces children to the art of puppet making.  We’ll be watching puppet shows, storytelling, and singing. On the last day, we will go to the International Puppet Festival, held in Nashville this year, to see a puppet show at the downtown public library.

12:30-3:30

 

Tennis Camp

For rising grades 1-6

Camp will focus on fun, friendship, and fundamentals.
Each camper needs just a racquet, water bottle, tennis shoes, and appropriate clothing

Someone's in the Kitchen—Baking

For rising grades 5-8

Nothing smells better then a slice of fresh baked bread, warm sugar cookies, apple crisp or yummy chocolate brownies right out of the oven.  Learn how to make these and other home-baked treats while we explore the science and math of baking. All camp graduates will receive their own super stirring spoon.

Summertime Songwriting Camp for Kids

For rising grades 2-8
in this camp, musical kids will explore the creative side of music making. Husband-wife team teachers, Jonathan Kasper, M.Ed. and Jocelyn Kasper, MFA, provide playful word and music activities designed to introduce kids to the magic of songwriting. For more information, visit www.KasperMusic.com

The Women’s Soccer Academy

For rising grades 2-8

Our camp, led by USN’s varsity girls’ coach, is open to any girl interested in soccer, experienced or not.  Each day the camp will open with a session on footskills and then progress into the topic of the day. We will cover passing and receiving, attacking, defending, and finishing. On the last day we will play small-sided games. The players will be divided by age and skill into small groups with their own coach. The curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of recreational and select players. Each group coach will adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of the players in their group. All coaches will be experienced players and coaches who have trained at a high level. Each player will receive camp photo, a written evaluation and have an opportunity to win daily prizes. Please email Molly with any questions at mollyg@sprynet.com.

Web Design

For rising grades 5-9

Please note:  Camp will meet Monday – Thursday

You’ll learn all the tricks you need to create a professional website. Then you’ll create your own and host it free on our servers. More advanced students will also learn to integrate movies, flash, and databases into their websites.  For more information, email usn@sci-techcamps.com

Flash Animation

For rising grades 5 – 9

Please note:  Camp will meet Monday – Thursday

Use Flash to make your own videos, complete with special effects, sounds, and more.   This is the same software that was used to make similar videos and games you’ve seen on the internet.  For more information, email usn@sci-techcamps.com.
