Multicultural education at USN is a process and philosophy dedicated to the ideals and practice of
cultural pluralism, education equity and community building. By modeling open-mindedness, self- and mutual respect, critical inquiry and reflective practice, USN faculty create educational experiences through which all children can become forward thinking, out-reaching, socially active and civically responsible.
Characteristics essential to the definition and practice of multicultural education:

Inclusive definition of diversity, i.e., socio-economics, religion, gender, sexual (relationship) orientation, age, ability, race, ethnicity, family composition, etc.

Planned, purposeful, comprehensive and developmental instruction

Adult modeling of openness to difference, multiple perspectives

Use of different teaching styles, interdisciplinary instruction

Awareness of and commitment to cultural pluralism, cross-cultural understanding, educational equity and social justice.
