Snow Procedures for USN
Snow Procedures for USN
Please note that the most recent information can be found on the front page of the website and/or via our email lists.
USN also contacts WSM 650AM, WLAC 1510AM and several local TV stations with updates.
* If school is to be closed or to open at 10:00
because of snow or ice, we will let you know as early as possible by
broadcasting on major television and radio stations (see above).
You can also consult our website to find school closing and delayed
opening information for USN.
* When there is an announced 10:00 opening, please
do not drop children off before 9:30 because there may not be enough
adults in the building to provide adequate supervision. If you
arrive after 10:00, don’t forget to come inside with your child and
sign in at the Main Office or appropriate LS/MS/HS Division office.
* The AFTER-SCHOOL program does not provide early
care for children on mornings when school opens late.
* We make every effort to open if main roads are
safe for driving but encourage you to make your own decision about
bringing your child based on road conditions in your area.
* Once school has opened for the day, it will remain
open until the regular dismissal time for each Division (LS/MS/HS), even if it should start snowing during the
day. Classes will continue on schedule, but feel free to come
pick up your child early if you are concerned about driving conditions.
* Please use the following pick-up guidelines:
Lower School
You do NOT need to call ahead of time to let us know you are coming early.
2. When you arrive, please come into the
building and go directly to your child's classroom. You do not
need to stop at one of the offices to sign your Lower School child out.
3. The classroom teacher will keep a list with
the name of the student, time of departure, and the person with whom
the child departed.
4. Please notify your hook-up driver if you come early to pick up your child.
5. Any children not picked up by 3:30 on a
snowy day will be supervised in the AFTER-SCHOOL area until you are
able to get here.
Middle School and High School
6. Parents of High School and Middle School
students should call ahead, then come to the appropriate office to sign
out their students. Parents of High School students with cars may
call the HS office to give permission for their students to drive home.
